Some Things You Might Want to Know!
Your wedding is the most important day of your life and your images are the only memory you will have that will live on forever. The dress will go into the closet, the flowers will die, and you will slowly forget what your food and cake tasted like, but you will have photos of all these things to help you remember. While digital cameras are everywhere and many people call themselves “photographers”, you want to make sure you can trust the person you hire to not miss all those important details. This comes from experience and education. A professional photographer will have the experience to help you plan your timeline for the day and to know how long to expect for everything from getting ready, to the receiving line or dinner and speeches. Professionals know how to work with all lighting and weather conditions and will make your day go smoothly. While your friend or uncle may have a great camera and love to take photos, the biggest regret we hear from people is they “wished they had hired a professional photographer”.
We have been shooting weddings since 2004 and to date have shot more than 300 weddings!
We generally book 15-20 weddings a year and are often booked a year in advance, especially with the popular weekend dates.
NightinGail Photography has a strict policy of shooting only one wedding per weekend in order to provide you with my complete individualized attention for your wedding day.
Destination weddings are restricted to two (2) per year only and are dependent on the location as every international destination has different rules for out of country photographers. We will no longer be photographing weddings in the United States.
We think it is very important to do your research. What type of wedding photography do you like? What type of editing do you want to have with your images? Shortlist 3-5 photographers you LOVE and meet with some of them. Make sure you can view their work and products (and even a whole wedding), talk to them about the wedding day and ask questions about their experience and their suggestions. You will spend more time with your photographer than any other vendor on the day, so you want to be sure that not only do you love their work and style, but also that you enjoy their personality. You have to be able to put your trust into this person to capture your day and give you images you will love years from now!
We want to talk about your wedding and make sure that we are a good fit. I would love to! My home studio at Kennisis Lake in Haliburton County is where I meet with couples to go over their plans for the big day and also to share products and additional work with you, but only if it is convenient for you.
We are also delighted to get together for a coffee at a location of your choice within our regular service area. (A nominal travel fee of $50 is required which is applied to your reservation retainer when the booking is completed!) Life and schedules are hectic these days so I have many couples book me after only talking through email, phone, text and video chat. I have no problem with this! While I’d love to meet all my couples before, I understand that sometimes that just isn’t possible. If you decide that you would like to chat over the phone or via Skype, I’d be happy to arrange a day/time with you.
All of our Signature Wedding Collections include a second photographer, high-resolution digital files and a beautiful 12 x 12 bridal album. All of our second shooters are professional wedding photographers. We will always ensure we am working with another professional with a similar skill level and style to ours.
Beside our Signature Collections, we also can offer hourly coverage based on what you need. Most couples do not need a photographer at the salon in the early morning, nor do they need a photographer there until the party dies. The most common coverage is 6-8 hours. Our minimum coverage is 5 hours for Friday-Sunday weddings during high season which is May 24 through October 15.
We would be happy to discuss with you either in person, via SKYPE, or over the phone to figure out a rough timeline of the day to ensure we cover what is important to you! After all -- it is YOUR DAY!
We are quite often shooting all over Ontario and love to visit and photograph new venues and locations. If you are getting married outside of our regular service area, we’d be happy to discuss your location and give you a better idea of the applicable travel fees.
We are having a very small wedding with only 50 or less guests. Do you offer a discount for this? We get this question a lot! Unfortunately, we are unable to provide discounts. No matter the size of your wedding, the same amount of time, effort, creativity and talent goes into photographing and editing.
We do not offer discounts for Friday, Sunday or off-season weddings. These days have become just as popular as Saturdays in the past few years, so they are not as uncommon as they used to be. The same amount of time and effort goes into each wedding from start to finish.
What if we are eloping or having our wedding on a non-weekend day? We do offer a collection for these (not a discount); however, there is a minimum of three (3) hours of service; the number of guests must be twenty (20) or less. High resolution digital files are not included.
Unfortunately, we do not work off shot lists with the exception of your family groupings. You will provide us with a list of family members during our final meeting about a month before your wedding. If there is any family drama that we should know about ahead of time, please let us know at our final meeting. This list often gets adjusted a tiny bit on the actual wedding day because there is always at least one family shot that got missed on the schedule. We go with the flow.
We always open to hearing about any special or different plans you have for the day that you definitely want to capture. As professionals, we always do our best to capture everything from details to candids and everything in between.
While we love Pinterest and understand the amazing effect it has had on brides and grooms everywhere, it tends to really slow down the process of taking photos on the day because every location is different; lighting changes on the fly; and a list of specific shots really inhibits our creativity to tell your story.
Do we need a lot of time for photos on our wedding day? We highly recommend having at least 2 hours to capture all your main formals and creatives. This will allow us time to capture your important family photos, as well as images with your wedding party and of course, the newly married couple!
The more time we have, the more photos we can create. Great photos take time and the more time you allow for us to shoot you -- the better.
FYI -- please allow time for travel between locations!
Most wedding and reception venues have places for photographs. If your's doesn't have a photo location option on-site, we’d be happy to help you find something!
However, if we are travelling off-site, please allow time in your schedule to move everyone to the photo location and back again.
If the off-site location requires a permit, it is your obligation to purchase it. Please ensure you do this as soon as you decide on a photo location, as many book up quickly. Once you have your permit, please make sure that you retain the original to take with you to the location on your wedding day and e-mail me a copy so that we don't find ourselves at a location that you have paid for and cannot use because the permit was left at home. Without that piece of paper, the Security Guard will run us off the premises.
What if our location is new to you? Every year we shoot at new locations and we love it! Being a professional photographer means that we can walk into any new venue on the day and easily work with it without delay.
Scouting is available for an extra fee if this would make you feel more comfortable. That being said, scouting a location doesn’t guarantee that the lighting/weather will be the same on your wedding day which will completely change how we work at the location.
We now require a 50% non-refundable retainer along with a signed contract to secure your date. The balance will be required approximately one (1) month prior to your wedding date.
All contracts are digitally signed using our on-line secure client management system. For wedding clients, the contract must be signed by both parties -- the bride and the groom.
We are happy to accept cash, cheque and email money transfer (EMT). I also accept most credit cards using Square, as well as PayPal.
Payment plans are available if your service is more than $5,500; however the 50% retainer is required. The balance may be spread over three (3) months with a signed payment agreement in place.
We shoot entirely in RAW. Unfortunately, RAW files are not for sale because they are digital negatives (just like film used to be). Every RAW file is processed to show off the best images of your wedding day. Proceessing to our standard ensures that you receive the most amazing finished images to show off to your family and friends.
All of our Signature Wedding collections include high resolution digital files in JPG format read for printing. Depending on the collection chosen, these files are delivered by download through your secure private gallery or on a custom USB in a beautiful archival storage box. Either way all the images are print-ready for you. We also include a personal use license as most consumer photo labs will require this document to prove you have the permission of NightinGail Photography to print any or all of them.
Engagement sessions are fun! We absolutely recommend that every couple should have one. This session gets you used to being in front of the camera and it’s great prep for the wedding day. After all, you hate getting your picture taken--right? We promise it will be fun!
Most couples have never had professional photos taken before, so having some fun, laid-back photos of you in non-wedding attire is wonderful to have. You can also use these photos for invitations, save-the-dates, or as a guestbook/print at your reception.

Within one (1) week of your wedding day or the week after you return from your honeymoon, we will send you a link to our blog where we have posted a few "sneak peeks" of your wedding date with some information about the vendors you chose to work with, and, of course, a bit of your story. We only include your first names to protect the innocent!
We try and get your images back to you as quickly as possible; however, the general timeline is 6-8 weeks. Downloads are generally a bit quicker with the custom USB and archival storage box taking about an additional two to three weeks.
We are always pleased to recommend vendors that we have worked with over the years. After you book with us, we would be happy to pass along our preferred vendor list with some great vendors you can contact, depending on your venue.

In addition, you will also receive a brochure on your engagement session if one is included in your collection and what to expect.
