Transitioning Back to Canada

PERSONAL

It’s hard to believe that we have been in S.W. Florida for six months already!  Again, it has been a fun time with sun, sand, pool, friends, golf and lots of other activities.  Don has been working hard at the gym nearly every day (I’m not so consistent!)

The weather wasn’t perfect this year — January and February were much cooler than normal (however, we didn’t have to shovel anything!) — but it put a big crimp into my water aerobics class.  The other activity that I enjoy a lot with the ladies is Bunco.  I participated in the tournament this year and I was fortunate enough to be the “Big Winner.”  It’s absolutely great because this game is played with dice and takes ABSOLUTELY NO SKILLS at all!

This year, we had our first overnight guests from home (Kennisis Lake, ON) Jim & Cynndy.  They live within walking distance of us at home and while they are here in Florida, they spend about a month in Naples.  We got together for dinner and went off to Naples Beach for a nice walk.   The next day, we went off to see the Blue Jays vs. the Red Sox at Jet Blue Park.  Of course, the Blue Jays wiped the Sox off the map!! Go — Jays.  After the game, we stopped off at Norman Love’s Confectionery and picked up a few chocolates for Easter.  Then dinner at Joe’s Crabb Shack and home to just hang out for the rest of the evening.  The next morning after a great breakfast at Everybody’s Brunch Place (a fantastic little restaurant near Lake Fairways), Jim & Cynndy were off!  We will be seeing them again really soon (like next week!)

As this is our last week in N. Ft. Myers, both Don and I have been cleaning and deciding what will be going home with us.  Packing up is finally at a stage that it is getting easier after doing it for four years.

Thursday, our best man, Grant, and his wife, Maria, came down from Indian Shores for just a brief visit.  Last year, we went up to see their timeshare on the beach so it’s their turn to visit us.  We had a great afternoon at the pool (good thing most of the hard work is done!) after a light lunch at Everybody’s Brunch Place.  Don gave Grant a tour around our golf course on our cart while Maria & I just relaxed in the air conditioning at 51F (that’s our house address).  We went out to dinner at our favourite seafood spot, Joe’s Crab Shack. Grant & Maria will be heading home on Saturday, same as us.  As a lot of people who are heading back up north say, “See you at the rest stops!”

We are really ready to come home — looking forward to seeing friends and family over the summer — and hopefully having the grandkids come up to the lake for a few days!

We are on the road now and we will see you next week!
